Most CVs are autobiographies; winning CVs are advertisements aimed at one job. The difference decides whether your six seconds of recruiter attention become an interview call.
1. One page until ten years in
Ruthless editing signals judgment; padding signals the opposite.
2. Lead with results, not duties
"Increased monthly sales 40%" beats "responsible for sales" every time.
3. Mirror the job post's keywords
Both the software filters and the humans scan for them.
4. Numbers everywhere possible
Team sizes, budgets, percentages and timelines make claims believable.
5. Kill the objective paragraph
Replace it with a two-line summary of what you deliver.
6. Design for skimming
Clear headings, consistent dates, generous white space, one professional font.
7. PDF, named properly
Rahim_Uddin_Marketing_CV.pdf — never "final_final2.docx".
8. Tailor the top third per application
The first screen-height decides everything; customise it.
Update the CV while achievements are fresh, not the night before applying. Your future panicked self deserves the favour.
